The Old Testament Book of Lamentations
It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the
salvation of the LORD.
Lament 3:26 KJV

* CHAP * COMMENTS
* 1 *How does the city sit solitary that was full of people. How has she
become as a widow. All her friends have dealt treacherously with her.
They have become her enemies. The Lord has afflicted her for the
multitude of her transgressions. My eye runs down with water because
the comforter that should relieve my soul is far from me. The Lord
is righteous for I have rebelled against the commandment. All my
enemies have heard of my trouble. They are glad that you have done it.
Let their wickedness come before you. Do unto them as you have done
unto me for my transgressions.
* 2 *How has the Lord covered the daughter of Zion with a cloud in his
anger. The Lord was as an enemy. He has violently taken away his
tabernacle; He has cast off his alter; Thy prophets have seen vain and
foolish things. All that pass by clap their hands at you. Your enemies
have opened their mouth against you. The Lord has done what he has
devised. Arise, pour out your heart before the Lord.
* 3 *I am the man that has seen affliction by the rod of his wrath. He has
led me and brought me into darkness, but not into light. He has made
my chain heavy; He shuts out my prayer; He has made my paths crooked;
He has made me desolate. He has filled me with bitterness. This I
I recall to my mind, so have I hope. It is of the LORD's mercies that
we are not consumed because his compassions fail not. It is good that
a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.
For the Lord will not cast off forever. Out of the mouth of the most
High proceeds not evil and good? Let us search and try our ways and
turn again unto the Lord.
* 4 *How is the gold become dim. How are the sons of Zion esteemed as
earthen pitchers. The daughter of my people is become cruel. Young
children ask for bread but no one gives it to them. They that be
slain with the sword are better than they that be slain with hunger.
The LORD has accomplished his fury. The punishment of your iniquity
is accomplished, O daughter of ZION.
* 5 *Remember O LORD what is come upon us. Our inheritance is turned to
strangers. Our water and wood is sold unto us. We labor and have no
rest. Our fathers have sinned & are not; we've borne their iniquities.
Servants have ruled over us. Our skin was black because of the famine.
The women & maids were ravished. Young men were taken to grind. The
joy of our heart is ceased. Woe unto us, that we have sinned! Thou, O
LORD remainest for ever; thy throne from generation to generation. Why
do you forget us forever, and forsake us for so long? Turn us unto
you O LORD and we shall be turned; renew our days as of old.
