The Old Testament Book of Ruth
And Ruth said, Entreat me not to leave thee, or to return
from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go: and where
thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God
my God; Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD
do so to me, and more also, if aught but death part thee and me.
Ruth 1:16-17 KJV

* CHAP * COMMENTS
* 1 * There is a famine in Bethlehem-Judah. Elimelech, Naomi, and
their two sons come to Moab. Elimelech dies. The two sons marry and die
with no children. Naomi starts to return to her peple accompanied by
both her daughters-in-law. Naomi tells them to return that she will have
no more sons. Orpah returns but Ruth cleaves to Naomi.
* 2 * Ruth gleans in Boaz's field. Boaz asks about her, and tells her
to glean only in his field. Ruth asks why he takes notice of her. Boaz
speaks of Ruth's faithfulness to Naomi. Ruth gleans in field, returns
and shares with Naomi. She tells what has befallen her. Naomi tells her
to stay only in the field of Boaz.
* 3 * Naomi advises Ruth on what she should do. Ruth promises to obey,
and does by going to Boaz. Boaz askes who she is? Ruth asks for help as he
is a near kinsman. Boaz praises her as a virtuous woman. He informs Ruth that
there is a kinsman nearer than he. If that kinsman will not do the part of a
kinsman, than he, Boaz will. Ruth returns to Naomi, who tells her that
Boaz will finish this thing this day.
* 4 * Boaz goes to the gate. He informs the next of kin what must be
done. After the next of kin will not redeem the property, Boaz does & takes
Ruth to wife. Obed, the father of Jesse, the father of King David is born
to Ruth and Boaz.
Ruth demonstrated faithfulness by her:
1. Presence. I will never leave thee.
2. Caring. She provided for Naomi.
3. Obedience. She did as Naomi advised.
Notice how Ruth was rewarded.
