*EEO Information for 2004/5:

Staff Vacancies
WCBE had only one full-time vacancy in 2004/5; it was for an Underwriting Associate. The position was posted and information distributed to groups on our contact list in May of 2004 and filled in August.

WCBE posted announcements about the position on the station web site, the Columbus Public Schools employment web site, and on the employment bulletin board at 270 East State Street in Columbus (in the Human Resources Department offices). The station also mailed out announcements to groups and organizations who have requested information on job openings including: The Ohio State University, Otterbein College, The Columbus Urban League, The Columbus Chapter of the NAACP, The Columbus Association of Black Journalists, and WCSU (Central State University).

196 applications were filed for the position. Six candidates were selected for interviews, however only five appeared: 3 males (1 white, 2 black), and 2 females (both white). The candidate chosen was one of the females.

EEO Activities & Initiatives
WCBE makes available internships to students who are interested in finding out about careers in radio. Internships are available in news, music, production, operations, and development.

WCBE invites community groups to tour the station and find out about the broadcasting industry and potential careers. The tours are held weekly from fall through spring.

WCBE staff take part in career day activities at area elementary, middle and high schools.

WCBE participated in broadcast-specific employment seminars at Otterbein College and Capital University, and was a sponsor for the "Purpose Driven Seminar" for people looking to start their own business or make career changes.

WCBE continued its partnership with The Columbus Association of Black Journalists in supporting the "Jerry Revish High School Journalism Workshop". Students interested in studying journalism in college are exposed to aspects of print, broadcast and public relations during four weekly seminars.
