The New Testament Books of 1 and 2 Peter

The New Testament Book of 1 Peter

For all flesh is as grass and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth and the flower thereof falleth away: But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

1 Peter 1:24-25 KJV

* CHAP * COMMENTS

* 1 *Peter to the strangers - elect unto obedience and sprinkling of Christ's blood. Blessed be God by whose mercy we are born to a lively hope & an incorruptible inheritance. Though your faith may be tried, the end result of your faith is the saving of your souls unto which salvation the prophets inquired. Be obedient children holy as God is holy for ye were not redeemed with corruptible things but with the precious blood of Christ. Love one another with a pure heart. All flesh is as grass, but the word of the Lord endureth forever.
* 2 *Lay aside sin & desire the milk of the word so you can grow. As lively stones you are built up in a spiritual house with Christ as the chief cornerstone as was promised. Abstain from fleshly lusts. Submit to the laws of man as is the will of God. Honor all. Fear God. Be subject to masters. Christ suffered for us leaving us an example to follow.
* 3 *Wives be in subjection to your own husbands. Adorn not outwardly but the heart. Husbands dwell with your wives with knowledge honoring your wife as a weaker vessel that your prayers be not hindered. Love as brethren. Render not evil but good for evil so you can obtain the blessing. He that would love life and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from guile, hate evil & do good. Be ready to give a reason for your hope. Be ready to suffer as Christ suffered. Noah preached and the ark saved 8 souls. In like figure baptism doth also now save us.
* 4 *Live not according to the Lusts of men but the will of God. The end of all things is at hand. Be sober & watch unto prayer. Have charity. Use hospitality. Minister to one another as God has given ability. Speak as the oracles of God. Rejoice for the fiery trial that is to try you. Glorify God if you suffer as a Christian -- and commit the keeping of your souls to him in well doing.
* 5 *I exhort the elders to feed the flock of God willingly and of a ready mind not as lords but examples. Humble yourself. God resists the proud. Cast all your care upon him for he cares for you. Be sober & vigilant. Your adversary the devil seeks whom he may devour. But God has called us unto his eternal glory that after ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, establish, strengthen, settle you.

The New Testament Book of 2 Peter

For if these things be in you and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. . . . for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:

2 Peter 1:8-10 KJV

* 1 *Salutation. God's divine power has given us all things that pertain to life and godliness, whereby we are given precious promises so that we could escape the corruption of the world. Add these to your faith so that you will not be unfruitful and so that ye shall not fall. Remember these things for we have not followed fables. We have a sure word of prophecy from God that is not for private interpretation.
* 2 *False prophets will arise and lead many away. The Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptation and reserve the unjust for punishment. Some are not afraid to speak evil of dignities and things they understand not. They have forsaken the right way. They are wells without water. Promising themselves liberty they have become the servants of corruption. The end of one who leaves the world's pollution through Christ and is again entangled therein is worse than the beginning.
* 3 *I Write to remind you that there shall come scoffers asking where is the promise of his coming. They forget God created the heavens and earth by his word and now reserves them to fire against the day of judgment. The Lord is not slack concerning his promises but his day will come as a thief in the night. What manner of person should we be seeing these things will be dissolved and we look for new heavens and new earth. Be diligent to be found of him in peace without spot and blameless and account the suffering of our Lord is salvation even as Paul wrote. Grow in grace & knowledge. To him be glory both now and forever. Amen.
