The Old Testament Book of Malachi

But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner's fire, and like fullers'soap:

Malachi 3:2

-----------------------------------------------------------------

The burden of the word of the LORD to Israel by Malachi.

* 1 * "I have loved you," saith the Lord. But you ask, "How have you loved us?" "If I am a Father, where is my honor? If I am a master where is my respect?" says the Lord of Hosts to the priests that despise His name. You say, " how have we despised your name?"
* 2 * Now, priests, this commandment is for you. If you will not lay it to heart, I will send a curse upon you. The priests lips should keep knowledge for he is the messenger of the Lord. But, you have departed out of the way. You have caused many to stumble. Judah has married the daughter of a foreign god. You have dealt treacherously against the wife of your youth. "I hate divorce!" says the Lord.
* 3 * I will send my messenger who will prepare the way before me. But who can stand when he appears? You have turned away from my laws from the times of your forefathers. Will a man rob God? Your words have been against me, but you have said, "What have we said against you?
* 4 * The day is coming that the arrogant and the evil doer will be stubble. Remember the law of Moses my servant. Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the great and dreadful day of the Lord.
