The Old Testament Book of Zecharia
Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Execute
true judgment, and shew mercy and compassions every man
to his brother: And oppress not the widow, nor the
fatherless, the stranger, nor the poor; and let none of
you imagine evil against his brother in your
heart. (AV)
Zecharia 7:9-10
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The word of the LORD came unto Zechariah, the son of Berechiah,
the son of Iddo the prophet.
* 1 * Don't be like your fathers who did not hearken when the earlier
prophets said, "turn from your evil ways". Where are your fathers?
And the prophets -- do they live forever?
The vision of the horses in the myrtle trees. The vision of the 4
horns and the 4 craftsmen.
* 2 * The vision of the man with the measuring line.
* 3 * The vision of the cleansing of Joshua the high priest.
* 4 * The vision of the golden candlestick and olive trees.
* 5 * The vision of the flying skroll. The vision of the woman in a basket.
* 6 * The vision of the 4 chariots, the crowinging of Joshua; the coming of
the man whose name is The BRANCH.
* 7 * Sherezer and Regemmelech and their men sent to pray before the Lord,
and to ask about fasting. The Lord asks, "When you fasted, or ate,
or drank -- was it for me?" The Lord says to execute true judgement;
do not oppress; do not think evil of your brother in your heart!
They made their hearts as a stone lest they should hear the law; so
when they cried -- I would not hear saith the Lord of Hosts.
* 8 * Thus saith the Lord of Hosts, I will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem.
The city of Jerusalem will be called the city of truth. Let your
hands be strong that the temple might be built. I will not deal with
the remnant of the people as I did in the past. As I thought to
punish, I now have thought to do well to Jerusalem and to Judah.
Speak Truth! Execute true judgement! Do not imagine evil! Love no
false oath! I hate these things says the Lord. The fasts shall be
joy and gladness, therefore love the truth and peace. Many people
and strong nations will seek the Lord of Hosts in Jerusalem.
* 9 * The burden of the word of the Lord is against Hadrach and Damascus.
Rejoice daughter of Zion, Thy king cometh to thee having salvation
and riding on a colt.
* 10 * The idols have spoken vanity. The Lord's anger was kindled against
the shepherds and he has punished the goats. The Lord will
strengthen the house of Judah and will save the house of Joseph.
* 11 * The Lord my God says feed the flock of the slaughter. Their own
shepherds pit them not. I will no longer pity the inhabitants of the
land. I took two staves, one Beauty, another named Bands. Beauty was
broken to void the covenant with the people. Bands was broken to
break the brotherhood between Judah and Israel.
* 12 * The burden of the word of the Lord for Israel. In that day I will make
Jerusalem an immovable rock; I will smite every horse & its rider;
I will make the govenors of Juda like fire among the wood; I will
defend Jerusalem; I will set out to destroy the nations that come
against Jerusalem & they shall look upon me whom they have pierced,
and shall mourn.
* 13 * In that day there shall be a fountain opened to the house of David;
I shall cut off the names of the idols. Awake, O sword, against my
shepherd. Smite the shepherd & the sheep will be scattered.
* 14 * The day of the Lord comes when your spoil shall be divided among you.
On that day it shall not be clear nor dark; living water will flow
from Jerusalem; there shall be one Lord; men will be stricken by the
Lord with a great panic. And it shall come to pass that the remaining
nations shall go to worship the King. HOLINESS UNTO THE LORD shall
be upon the bells of the horses.
