The Old Testament Book of Micah

Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, or with ten thousands of rivers of oil? shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?

Micah 6:7-8

* CHAP * COMMENTS

The word of the LORD that came to Micah the Morasthite in the days of Jotham, Ahaz , Hezekiah - kings of Judah which he saw concerning Samaria & Jerusalem.
* 1 *Hear the Lord God from his holy temple. He comes out of his place & will tread upon the high places of the earth. The mountains will melt under him. The transgression of Jacob is all this. The transgression of Jacob is Samaria and the high places of Judah are Jerusalem. I'll make Samaria as a heap of the field. The graven images will be beaten to pieces. I'll wail & howl for her wound is incurable. I'll bring an heir unto you Madreshah. He'll come to Adullum the glory of Israel.
* 2 *Woe to them that devise iniquity & work evil on their beds! When it is light, they practise it since it is in the power of their hand. They covet fields and take by violence. Therefore the LORD says I devise an evil from which you will not remove your necks. One will take a parable against you & lament -we be utterly spoiled. Prophesy ye not, say they to them that prophesy. Are these the LORD's doings? Don't his words do good to him that walketh uprightly? Of late my people is risen up as an enemy. Arise & depart. This isn't your rest. It is polluted. It will destroy you. I will gather the remnant of Israel.
* 3 *Hear heads of Jacob and princes of Israel. Isn't it for you to know judgement. Who hate good & love evil. Who eat the flesh of my people. Then they will cry unto the LORD but He will not hear them. The LORD says concerning the prophets that cause His people to err "Night will be unto you that you will not have a vision. They will be ashamed and confounded because there is no answer of God." I am full of power by the spirit of the LORD to decare unto Jacob his transgression. Hear I pray you that abhor judgement, pervert all equity. They build Zion with blood and Jerusalem with iniquity. Yet they will lean upon the Lord and say "Isn't the LORD among us? No evil can come upon us" Therefore Zion will be plowed as a field.
* 4 *In the last days it will come to pass that the mountain of the Lord's house will be established in the top of the mountains and it will be exalted above the hills. Many nations will come and say, "Let us go the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways and we will walk in his paths for the law will go forth of Zion, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. They will beat their swords into plowshares. None will make them afraid. We will walk in the name of the LORD our God forever. The LORD will reign over them in mount Zion forever. Why do you cry out aloud. You will go even to Babylon: there you will be delivered. The LORD will redeem you from the hand of your enemies. You will beat in pieces many people.
* 5 *They will smite the judge of Israel with a rod upon the cheek. But thou Bethelehem, though you are little, out of you will he come forth that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting. Therefore he will give them up until she which traveleth has brought forth. And he will stand & feed in the strength of the LORD. The remnant of Jacob will be in the midst of many people as a lion among the beasts of the forest. Your hand will be lifted upon your adversaries and your enemies shall be cut off. In that day I will cut off thy horses & chariots, the cities & strong holds of thy land, witchcrafts from your hand, graven images - and you will no more worship the work of your hand. I will execute vengeance in anger and fury upon the heathen, such as they have not heard.
* 6 *Hear ye what the LORD says; Contend thou before the mountains. Hear ye O mountains the LORD's controversy - for the LORD has a controversy with his people. What Have I done unto you? How have I wearied you? Testify against me. I brought you out of Egypt and sent Moses, Aaron, and Miriam before you. Remember what Balak consulted and what Balaam answered so you may know the righteousness of the LORD. Wherewith shall I come before the LORD and bow myself before the high God? Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams or ten thousands rivers of oil? Shall I give my first born for my transgression? The fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? He has showed you, O man, what is good: and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God. Shall I count them pure with the wicked balances, and the bag of deceitful weights? The rich men are full of violence, and the inhabitants have spoken lies. I'll make you sick in making thee desolate because of thy sins. You shall eat, but not be satisfied. You will sow but shall not reap. The statutes of Omri are kept and the works of the house of Ahab. Therefore you will bear the reproach of my people?
* 7 *The good man is perished out of the earth & there is none upright among men; they all lie in wait for blood; they hunt every man his brother with a net. That they may do evil with both hands earnestly. The best of them is as a brier: The most upright is shaper than a thorn hedge. The day of your visitation comes. Trust not in a friend. Put not confidence in a guide: keep thy mouth from her that lies in your bosom. For the son dishonours the father, the daughter rises up against her mother; a man's enemies are the men of his own house. Therefore I will look unto the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation. My God will hear me. I will bear the indignation of the LORD, because I have sinned against him, until he plead my cause. Who is a God like unto you, that pardons iniquity? He retains not his anger forever because he delights in mercy. You will perform the truth to Jacob, and the mercy to Abraham, which you have sworn unto our fathers from the days of old.
